Recommended by elsterama on August 11, 2011 via Adland.tv

Woot! is where you'll get a daily deal wrapped up in a hilariously written sales pitch, but this joke might just be a bit too soon.Continue

Does More Internet Streaming and Web Video Mean Less Traditional TV Viewership?

Recommended by elsterama on June 15, 2011 via ReadWriteWeb

nielsen150.jpgDespite all the hullabaloo about the ascendancy of Web video and predictions about the demise of cable, Americans still watch a lot of television. Those are the findings, at least, from the latest study by Nielsen. And even with all the various ways people can now consume video, Americans' intake of "traditional" TV is still the dominant source for most viewers. Furthermore, this viewership has increased by 22 minutes per month per person over the last year.Continue

Radio Preacher Predicts End of World, Web Plays Along

Recommended by elsterama on May 20, 2011 via ReadWriteWeb

bridge sunset.jpgSelf-reinforcing delusional and Family Radio babblespout Harold Camping has predicted the "rapture" for tomorrow. (He predicted it for June of '94, but...never mind.) A - God help us - "radio evangelist" (I'm going to run out of quotation marks and parentheses before this is done, I can tell), he has junked up the American cityscape with billboards to this effect. (And seriously, dude, hire a graphic designer.) In fact, my friend's cousin was hired to put them up in Eugene, Oregon, inspiring a dual epidemic of eye-rolling and hand-wringing. Continue

Noisey Shows MTV How to do Music TV Online

Recommended by elsterama on March 28, 2011 via ReadWriteWeb

Wouldn't it be great if MTV documented and showcased emerging bands on its television network, instead of making uninspired, irritating reality TV shows? Well if MTV won't do that, then a new web site that launched this month will. Noisey is a video-based "new music discovery platform" that is profiling new bands and local music scenes from around the world. The site was built using HTML5 and as a result it delivers a visually appealing app-like experience. This could be the future of music TV. I for one hope so, at least.Continue

Roku Adds Al-Jazeera & USB to Channels

Recommended by elsterama on February 1, 2011 via ReadWriteWeb

Roku, the little box that brings streaming Internet content to your television screen, announced two additions today that bring the Internet TV device to a new level. A device like Roku can be judged both in terms of what content it natively supports and how it connects to other devices to make content sharing easy.

Today's announcements by the company work to increase the device on both levels, connecting it both to content you won't find on many TV networks and to the other device in your room - your computer!.Continue
