Microsoft May Release Windows 8 Beta in September

Developer: Silverlight Has the Exact Same Vulnerability That WebGL Does

Silverlight logo Last week Microsoft issued a blog post stating that Internet Explorer will not support WebGL because WebGL is inherently insecure. The post was based on research conducted by the firm Context, which showed that WebGL could be used for denial of service attacks or use the GPU to run malicious code. Microsoft complained that WebGL is too reliant on third parties (ie, GPU vendors) to secure the Web experience.Continue

Windows XP Still Powers 60% of Corporate Desktops, Apple Makes Small Gains

Apple and Windows logos According to a new report from Forrester, Windows 7 is now in use on 20% of corporate desktops as of March 2011. Windows XP still holds on to 59.9% of the enterprise desktop world (down from 67.5% a year go). Apple now has an 11% share of the corporate desktop (up from 9.1%). Linux has only 1.4% (it was 1.3% a year before this study).

Meanwhile, Internet Explorer use is declining slightly while Chrome and Safari are on the rise.Continue

Kinect SDK Beta for Windows Now Available

Microsoft has released a a beta SDK for Windows. This initial release, announced at Microsoft MIX earlier this year, is for non-commercial use only.

Developers will now be able to build Kinect apps using Microsoft Visual Studio. At MIX, Microsoft did some live coding, showing how straight forward it is to work with. Microsoft Director of Developer Relations Jeff Sandquist built a painting app on stage in minutes.Continue
