When people hear about ‘usability testing,’ many things come to mind—eye-tracking cameras, big HCI labs, a long testing process, a lot of expenses, and maybe a little confusion as well. Even at this stage in the proverbial game, usability testing isn’t so well understood, and misconceptions abound.
While it’s true that when doing usability testing there are several stumbling blocks that can impede your progress (lack of funding, lack of time, lack of motivation, and especially lack of testers), there are also many ways to get around these issues. Facebook hit 500 million users this week, but where do they all live? If Facebook were a country, it would be the third most populous in the world - but it's not a country. Those 500 million people (give or take a few fake profiles, right?) all live in actual countries, where Facebook is used to a greater or lesser degree.Continue
Infographics have become fairly ubiquitous, illustrating more and more news stories, presentations, advertisements. Their popularity is no surprise, perhaps, as we look for new ways to visualize and understand the vast amounts of data we're presented.
Infographics can make information more accessible, more enjoyable, and easier to understand. And when well-crafted, an infographic seems to lend itself to being incredibly viral, with potential to drive traffic and generate interest.Continue
