SlingPage = Twitter + StumbleUpon + Bookmarking

SlingPage is a new service that is trying to do for bookmarking what twitter did for microblogging i.e instantly share your bookmarks along with any associated comments with friends.

The next time you browse the web and find an interesting page or article to bookmark,sideBar  you can do so and as you will do it, the bookmarked page would be sent to all your friends. In addition to this you can also discuss it with them. SlingPage also allows you to have followers and provides RSS feeds of your bookmarked pages for people to subscribe to. The service also has a public page to view the hot and recent slings. In short whatever is there in twitter, its present in SlingPage. I only wish that it doesn’t inherit the current problems faced by twitter (Man!! I am unable to use my twitter account since last two days, is there any one still working over at twitter).

SlingPage in a way also reminds me of Stumble upon. So just like Stumble Upon allows you to recommend webpages to others, SlingPage allows you to bookmark and share it with others. I am pretty sure that the service will be used in a similar way as Stumble Upon is being used i.e. to share interesting content on the web and to this feature that have added twittering functionality as well.

I personally think that if the current problems with twitter persists and if SlingPage provides a similarly easy way to add new friends just like in twitter. The service will become popular very quickly. On a related note adding new friends is one feature which really sucks in Stumble Upon. I dont know why sites like Stumble Upon and MyBlogLog makes it difficult for people to make new friends. We can just wish SlingPage chooses the other side of the lane.

The service is currently in private beta so stay tuned for it to open to general public.
